If you are looking for the best scooter for a 3 year old then you need to read this Micro scooter review. I wanted to buy my son a scooter for his third birthday present. He already had a trike and a ride on truck which he loved, but he was ready for something bigger. I spent a lot of time researching different scooters before deciding to buy a Micro Mini Deluxe scooter and I definitely made the right choice, we still love it 2 years later.
Why should I buy a scooter?
A scooter is a great toy for a 3 year old birthday present and the Micro scooters definitely have the wow factor. They are really well made and have different designs to suit your child’s stage off development. They also develop a child’s balance and motor skills, as well as their confidence and independence.
What are the benefits of a Mini Micro Deluxe?
When I was looking to buy a scooter I kept coming back to the Mini Micro deluxe for lots of reasons. I just love the look of them because they are so stylish and come in lots of different colours and custom designs to adapt to your child. The scooter is well made and because of the adjustable handlebar it will grow with your child and can be used for longer. I also love how light it is to carry, this means my son can pick it up and move it around easily and it is easy for me to carry if my son wants a break from riding it.
Main features of the Micro Mini Deluxe Scooter
- Responsive brake
- Good stability
- Strong and well made
- Adjustable handlebars
- Lots of colours and accessories
- Soft grip handlebars
- Raised footplate with good grip
- Anodised aluminium stem on the handlebar to prevent rusting
- Lightweight frame
- Removable handlebars
- Puncture proof wheels
- Lean to steer system
What age is it suitable for?
It is suitable for children age 2-5 years or height 80cm- 110cm. The adjustable handlebars allow the scooter to grow with your child, so they will be able to use it for longer. I bought the Micro Mini Deluxe scooter for my son for his third birthday and I think this was about the right age. He was able to ride it straight away because of its great stability and picked up how to use the brake really quickly. It took him a little while to master the steering as he was worried about his balance when leaning left and right to turn the scooter. But once his confidence had developed there was no stopping him whizzing about.
What is the difference between the Mini Micro Original and the Mini Micro Deluxe?
The original Mini Micro is slightly cheaper than the Mini Micro Deluxe. They have all of the same features, but the deluxe version has these extra benefits:
- Adjustable handlebars mean it can be used from 2 years old and will grow with your child
- Anodised aluminium stem to prevent rusting on the handlebars
Does the Mini Micro Deluxe scooter fold?
It doesn’t fold, but the handlebar can be removed if you need it to. This is a good option if you want to pack it in a suitcase to take on holiday with you. However I’ve never needed to remove the handlebars on my son’s scooter. We quite often take it in the car with us, but all I need to do is adjust the handlebars to their lowest setting and it easily fits in the boot or behind the front seat.
What accessories should I buy?
Every child should own a helmet and Micro have such great designs, you can choose to match the scooter colour or get a pattern. We went for a patterned design because they are just so cute. He is now getting too old for this, so I would love to get a plain one with a light.
These are great for the school run in the winter because it makes your child more visible to others.
This is a life saver! When we go for a walk and my son gets tired I can easily tow him along one-handed. It can also be made into a carry strap and you can put the scooter over your shoulder.
What are the other Micro scooter designs?
Micro make scooters for toddlers, children and adults. They make 2 and 3 wheeled scooters, stunt scooters and electric scooters. My son will soon be 5 years old, so I will be getting him a Micro Maxi Deluxe. I would love to get my daughter a Mini Micro 3 in 1 (in pink!) because they look amazing, but my son’s Mimi Micro is in such good condition it would be a shame to not pass it on to her.
